Kind of a bummer for Luigi that he’s relegated to a post-launch minigame, but at least he’s arrived eventually to the party. Rewards do increase as you rank up, but this seems to be an overall bonus that affects all balloons equally. For example, one balloon may cost 10 coins to play, but give a 50 coin reward. Still, there are going to be a lot of Luigis in a lot of levels so this should keep players occupied for a while. 1 When picking a balloon to find in Luigi’s Balloon World, each balloon has a different price and reward. But Nintendo has been doing more DLC lately, like we saw with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, so I am a bit surprised we’re only getting very minor updates for Mario. Given the success of Odyssey, Nintendo may skip substantive paid DLC for the game and use those ideas for a sequel. Inspired by Super Mario Odyssey: Balloon World, this hack takes the original levels and turns them into small puzzles and/or speedrun challenges. I know that many players are hoping that Nintendo will eventually add some DLC to the game that includes more moons to hunt down in new worlds, but there have been no announcements or even hints of that nature so far.
This update was announced way back in January during a Nintendo Direct, but it may not be the last one, as Nintendo has promised more costumes to come, and perhaps, more minigames.
The update also comes with a few new filters for photo mode. There’s another suit for Mario, there’s a sunglasses and sun shirt outfit, and there’s a full knight in armor costume that I am guessing is going to be pretty pricey. Loot Boxes are now officially recognized by the ESRB. There are two modes in Balloon World: Hide It mode lets you hide a balloon. Payday 2 on the Switch is not that great.
